SAP predicted that some of the technology trends that you are about to read in this article will certainly change the design of how you do your business in the future. It would not be an exaggeration if we state that the Internet of Things, Machine Learning, and Blockchain will play an important role sooner than we can ever imagine. The relevant thing for now is to try to discover how these trends may affect your enterprise business.
Appcentric Solutions Inc. will explain these relevant future technology trends like Augmented Reality, Blockchain, Artifical Intelligence, Robotics, and Contingent Labor that could up your overall business performance in the future.
1. Learning about Immersive Technology and Augmented Reality
Have you heard of the Pokémon Go? This is the biggest example of augmented reality on the consumer side. Almost everyone lived for this game but fell flat in 2014 since the application could not deliver an authentic experience. On the enterprise side, there was nothing much to explore since the projected applications are just starting to take its place now.
On the retail side, a number of clothing stores are already using a virtual mirror that could take its client’s size and even fit an outfit virtually. There’s also this car model simulator that could help buyers to experience and choose the right vehicle for them. Another thing is the Holoroom, where clients can design a simulated room using a tablet.
In the field of medicine, students can now practice multifaceted procedures safely using augmented reality. Some clinics are actually turning MRIs into conventional 2D and 3D images that can be projected over the site of the procedure for training or diagnostic purposes.
Companies could also use augmented reality to explain to their service representatives complex repair procedures or in an Internet of Things example, they could scan a construction site and through triggers, it will allow them to have access to real-time costs, supply inventories or planned versus actual spending.
You should be thinking about these technologies now and work with us to coinnovate. We could add virtual or augmented reality into your existing applications. Talk to us, we can discover a lot of possibilities as we talk.
2. Learning about Blockchain
You should look at blockchain from an enterprise perspective for it has an enormous potential. One great example has something to do with the necessity to scale. The question though is, can blockchain support the the levels that enterprises really need?
Let’s look at shipping containers. A big shipping containers can afford to carry around 18,000 containers, 50 pallets per container, 50 boxes per pallet. That means, in one ship, there are approximately 45 million items to track, and if there are 20 million containers out there, the numbers get absolutely big. The question now is, can blockchain scale to that level? For now, the possibilities are limited but this innovation should happen really soon
3. Learning about Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning
The era of 50s introduced the concept of artificial intelligence that connotes a smarter, human-like robots. Now there are two versions, machine learning and deep learning. Experts say that the beginning of true artificial intelligence will probably this 2017. Most use machine learning as the umbrella for both, but we should know that there is a subtle difference. Machine learning is learning by statistics and coming up with rules, while deep learning is self-learning with qualified data. SAP believes that deep learning algorithms will hit businesses, and change how people do their business.
Deep learning is like human training; good data is required and so as time so the algorithm can produce a solution. One possibility is, if you supply the right data about demand and supply and logistics, the algorithm might find a better routing and you can expect an improved supply chain. Now, deep learning has been used mostly with AlphaGo, but that’s a very slender piece since it is a board game.
Companies still use the same algorithms for self-driving cars and image and speech recognition, but these can still be considered as limited date sets. Now, look at a complete supply chain, significantly bigger, right? And with additional parameters, the information base gets exponentially bigger. Enterprise wise, these technologies are still at the early stage but we believe that this is something that your business should really think about
4. Learning about the Emergence of Cyborgs or Robotics
You may have heard of underground cyborg scenes and people testing cyborgs in many cities around the globe. Maybe, you have seen a video on social media about it. Some humans are already trying to hook a human brain to computers or have implants. Those are underground, but in the field of medicine, we can see that this could be very useful and there could be used in some niche areas. This is a huge testing area for some intense use cases in robotics and algorithms; we can also say that this is ideal for machine learning and algorithms for the can learn on prime data sets.
The future is exciting and could be difficult to predict, maybe machines and humans could really exist together and coevolution might really happen. Maybe machines may outsmart humans like in the movies. It is absolutely engaging when you think about it but this technology will undergo so much testing but we are sure that we’ll hear a lot more news in the future.
5. Learning about Automation and the Gig Economy
The digitization of the economy and how it will affect the workforce is a really big picture that is composed of different progressions in technology. A number of jobs will be moved in a certain direction due to automation and simply overall convenience of a workforce. Overtime, systems will be replicated which will affect certain groups.
The challenge now is what would happen if a group of people find themselves without any training to continue and take other jobs which will eventually turn into a larger societal problem. SAP believes that companies should collaborate and work across boundaries to address this before it becomes a workforce problem and societal problem.
This means, we have to have a contingent workforce. This workforce should be part of what you do as a company and see it as an essential part of your business. You shouldn’t say that you’ll just find a solution when you get there; this issues exists and you need to deal with it. A few years from now, this trend will increase and if you fail to prepare now, your business will be left behind.
SAP conducted a study about the digital readiness of companies. Most of them say that digital transformation is important but very few are actually ready for it. Businesses know that it is happening but not taking initiatives to address it, which will eventually cause major problems in the future.
